I’ve decided to keep Room 201 open in spite of going through some professional changes. As of June my job description will be that of a Literacy Coach and not a classroom teacher. I approach this change with excitement, nerves and some trepidation as I step from the familiar into the unknown.
At Mentor Training in late August I learned about the stages of a new teacher: anticipation, survival, disillusionment and, finally, rejuvenation. If I had to guess, I would definitely say that I am in the anticipation stage. I am anticipating a great job, meeting amazing people and learning new and wonderful things. As the school year approaches, what do you find yourself anticipating?
Audacity is on its way. Another way to engage and hook students into the oral / written process. Click linkabove for a preview of what you can include in your posts.
Last week during our Shared Reading time we read the article “The Gr8 Db8.” You were asked to take a side on the issue of texting and how it affects our communication skills. Please write a letter to Dr. Keith Wilson, English professor at the University of Ottawa responding to his statement that “text messaging may actually be decreasing literacy.” Your letter should address Dr. Keith Wilson and should use language to persuade, inform, question or agree with Dr. Wilson using background knowledge, research and examples to support your opinion.
When you are finished you will TAG with at least three other people in order to help them improve their responses. Thank you and have fun!
